Ramokgopa's long term plan to implement a capital-intensive programme that will prioritise maintaining coal power stations in a strategic manner will help manage capacity loss factors.
Municipal legacy debt remains a large contributing factor of continued power cuts in some areas. Municipalities need better bill collection methods and should consider exploring self-generation. This will open up opportunities to private partners wanting to enter the energy space and will ultimately result in a significant improvement of Eskom's balance sheet.
