Ramokgopa's sound knowledge of Eskom's operations and the root causes of the power utilities power generation issues will see South Africa experiencing an extended period of no power cuts from the 24th of December 2023. Ramokgopa's long term plan to implement a capital-intensive programme that will prioritise maintaining coal power stations in a strategic manner will help manage capacity loss factors. Municipal legacy debt remains a large contributing factor of continued power cuts in some areas. Municipalities need better bill collection methods and should consider exploring self-generation. This will open up opportunities to private partners wanting to enter the energy space and will ultimately result in a significant improvement of Eskom's balance sheet.
